BGV Presents: BGV Birmingham Pitch Competition

After an extremely successful 2020 Pitch Season, BGV is ready to kick off 2021 with its first-ever BGV Birmingham Pitch Competition!

On February 5th, Birmingham-based Black and Brown woman-identifying entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to film their pitch. The videos will be broadcast on Black Girl Ventures’ proprietary virtual platform SheRaise and The BGV Youtube Channel. The pitch competition judges will provide feedback and ask questions to the founders via video. The virtual format of the event allows for increased viewership, and Black Girl Ventures supporters across the United States will be able to tune in, submit their votes, and make donations through SheRaise.

Black Girl Ventures creates access to capital for Black and Brown women-identifying founders. The BGV Pitch Program flips the traditional pitch experience on its head: we coach entrepreneurs, host a live crowdfunded event, then connect them to community and professionals to support them on their journey.

We democratize funding by allowing the audience to vote with their dollars for the founder whose pitch they favor. The live-crowdfunding event is a high-energy, fun, focused, and supportive environment that includes the community in being a part of the entrepreneurial journey.

BGV Birmingham Presents: The Buzz with Bea Powered by Honey Pot Co.

Join BGV Birmingham while they get the Buzz with Beatrice Dixon from The Honey Pot Company.

About Beatrice Dixon

When she was younger, Beatrice Dixon suffered with bacterial vaginosis for eight months. One night, an ancestor gave her the ingredients to heal herself in a dream. From that insightful dream, she created the formula for a healthy, clean feminine wash. In 2014, Dixon launched The Honey Pot Company, a plant-based feminine hygiene line created with a goal to provide women with a healthy alternative to feminine care that is free of chemicals, parabens, carcinogens and sulfates. The rest is history.

An empowering African American female entrepreneur, Dixon has been a recipient of the Sundial and Unilever’s multimillion-dollar New Voices fund; was 1 of the first 40 women of color to raise one million in venture capital; and has been featured in T-Pain's School of Business, BuzzFeed's Ladylike series, Today Show, The New York Times, Entrepreneur, ELLE, ESSENCE and Forbes, to name a few.

Racial Justice Through Collaborative Programs and Projects

Join us for a year long speaker series dedicated to racial justice.

About this Event

LINK WILL BE SENT 2 HOURS BEFORE THE EVENT BEGINS.

The death of George Floyd, the injuring of Jacob Blake and many other African Americans who have been subjects of police violence, has moved people of all races and ethnicities throughout the world to respond to these atrocities with determination that their deaths will mark the beginning of an end to the long and tragic history of racial injustice. Large crowds of peaceful protestors in communities across the nation have demanded a change not only in police practices but in our nation’s priorities as a democratic society that demonstrates respect for all lives. CEI is committed to supporting these changes by applying the knowledge, creativity and civic commitment of the University of Delaware to the critical challenges facing communities in Delaware and across the nation. No community challenge is more critical now than securing equal justice. During the 2020-2021 academic year, the Community Engagement Initiative will provide programming and resources designed to provide solutions to current racial inequities in our local and global communities. The broad range of projects demonstrate the many ways UD is collaborating in and with community partners to create a more just and inclusive world.
